Kerman homes & risk

Why new Kerman homes get black widows and ants

Kerman has grown quickly along Highway 180 west of Fresno, with new subdivisions filling in beside working vineyards and almond orchards. New construction has its own pest signature, and black widows are at the top of it: freshly poured block walls, the gaps around new weep screens, construction debris and stacked moving boxes in the garage all give young spiders the dark, undisturbed cover they look for. People moving into a new Kerman home are often surprised to find black widows, assuming new means pest-free — but the surrounding farm ground and the fresh hardscape actually make it ideal.

Ants are the other signature. Argentine ant colonies displaced by grading regroup in the new, irrigated landscaping and trail indoors through slab edges and weep screens during the first hot summers, and the adjacent vineyards and orchards feed enormous outdoor colonies with workers to spare. Spiders in general follow the insects the new yards produce, and as the orchards are harvested and worked, field mice and the occasional rat test the new homes along the field edge.

Local knowledge

Pest control for Kerman’s growing neighborhoods

From our Fresno base, Kerman is about 25 minutes west on Highway 180, which keeps it in same-day range for urgent calls. We work the new tracts on the city’s edges as well as the older core around the downtown and the Kerman Unified schools, and we understand the new-construction pattern well: the first couple of summers in a new home are when black widows and ants establish, so getting a treatment in place early saves a lot of grief.

For black widows we treat the block walls, garage and weep screens directly and remove egg sacs, not just the spiders people happen to see. For the ant problem, we bait the colony and treat the outdoor sources in the yard and along the field edge, because a kitchen-only spray never touches the vineyard colony sending the workers. On the farm-edge lots, we build in exclusion and monitoring for the field mice that arrive after harvest.

Never see a pest in my house. J&J is the best. Very kind office staff. Pierre has sprayed for us for many years and we feel like we have family coming when he's on his way.

Jim came out and sprayed our house for the first time today and he was very knowledgeable and kind. From the first phone call to them, the customer service is outstanding. Prices are fair, and a locally owned business. Recommend!

FAQ

Pest control in Kerman: common questions

New construction is ideal black-widow habitat, which surprises a lot of new owners. Freshly poured block walls, gaps around new weep screens, construction debris and stacked moving boxes in the garage all give young spiders the dark, undisturbed cover they look for — and Kerman’s new tracts sit right next to farm ground that feeds the insects spiders eat. "New" doesn’t mean pest-free; it often means the opposite for the first few years.
